These plans must comply with multiple state regulations, including Health and Safety Code Sections 1565, 1565.5, 1568.044, and 1569.695, as well as California Code of Regulations, Title 22, Sections 80023, 81023, 82023 (Disaster and Mass Casualty Plan), and Section 87212 (Emergency Disaster Plan).

The completed plan must be maintained in writing and made available upon request to residents onsite, responsible parties for residents or clients, the local long-term care ombudsman, and local emergency responders.

Annual Review Requirement

California regulations require that the Emergency and Disaster Plan be reviewed annually, updated as necessary, and maintained on file at the facility. The licensee or administrator must sign and date the plan to verify that it has been reviewed and updated. While not required, facilities are encouraged to have their plan reviewed by local emergency authorities.
